Alva Inc. Board of Directors Meeting
April 23, 2008
A Board of Directors meeting was held Wednesday April 23, 7:00PM
at the Mother of God House of Prayer. President Ruby Daniels called
the meeting to order. In attendance were 9 people.
All welcomed with delight Denise Houck as the newest Board
Member.
President’s Report:
1. Caloosa 80 – A new proposal for the property including mining
and use as an RV park is pending submission. Developers will present
their concept at the May General meeting.
2. River Glen Properties – Reports are in circulation of a new
development submission for property north of Palm Beach Blvd near
Sunset. No other information was available.
3. President Daniels and Vice President Gerald met with the
Methodist Council April 17, informed them of Alva Inc. community
activities and welcomed their participation.
Secretary’s Report:
1. Minutes of the March Board meeting were summarized and
accepted.
2. A
draft letter to SFWMD regarding the recent toxicity in the river
was presented. Letter was accepted and signed by President Daniels
(attached).
Community Plan – Next Steps. Steven Brown’s draft document on the
Rural Village Mixed Use Overlay was discussed (see March BOD minutes
for a copy). The purpose of the document is to provide specific
development guidelines and standards that would apply to the Alva
Village Center. A Community Workshop will be planned for Saturday,
June 7 from 9am to 12 noon. Outreach to the following was suggested:
Residents, all local churches, commercial entities, fire department
and property owners within/near the Village Center.
Newsletter: A Community Notes feature will be added
North Olga Picnic: Bill Redfern, on behalf of the Musko’s,
extended invitations to Board Members for the North Olga Picnic on
April 27 th.
North River Village:
1. Steven Brown and Mr. Andrew McElwaine, President and CEO of
the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, met with the Bonita Bay Group
April 23, and conveyed their opposition to the North River Village
density increase request. Steven further reported Bonita Bay stated
that 150 residents of North Olga (described as the area between the
Caloosahatchee Regional Park and State Road 31) support the density
increase.
2. ELCC President Ed Kimball invited President Daniels to speak
at their planning meeting Monday April 28, 5PM. The North River
Village land use change proposal will be discussed.
3. Bonita Bay Group is attempting to schedule for a June
presentation of North River Village density increase to the LPA.
ELBC: The East Lee Business Council is establishing a Public
Issues Committee. Ellen and Andy Erickson will be asked to represent
Alva Inc.
Membership Recruitment: A volunteer is sought to develop Alva
Inc. talking points for presentation to groups Discussion followed
regarding signage for meeting events. V.P. Gerald volunteered to
look into permitting and placement issues. "Telephone tree" calls
for meetings, and an annual meeting/celebration were suggested.
CERP: Meeting to be held April 29, 8:00 PM, 2301 McGregor
soliciting public input regarding recreational uses.
Eagle Ordinance: On LPA Agenda for April 28 th.
Political Candidates Forum: Alva Inc. will host a forum Monday
night, August 11 at the Alva School Auditorium. Candidates will be
permitted two minutes for an introduction. Questions will be
solicited in advance and candidates will be given an opportunity to
respond. Questions from the floor will follow, time permitting.
Next BOD Meeting: Wednesday May 28, 7 PM
