Minutes: ALVA - A Living Vision of Alva, Inc. Community Meeting,
June 24, 2004
Present and signed in: John Payne, Rob Andrys, Laura Davis, Tom Del
Nay, Cathy Del Nay, Tom Super, Alison Super, Colette Corwin, Steve
Edlin, Donna Edlin, Tom Mundy, Kirby Mundy, Scott Clore, Tracy Clore,
J. R. Lott. (Six others who did not register presence).
Minutes of previous meeting approved.
Treasurer's report unavailable as treasurer, Lynn Fensterer, was out
of town.
Proposal by Sheriff Shoap for youth camp in the Caloosahachie River
Regional Park. It is opposed, not because of the need for such a
part, but because it does not reflect the state guidelines for the
park's usage. Individual letters in support of Alva's position
should be written to John Yarborough, Jim Lavender (Dir. of
Services), John Albion, Sheriff Shoap. Sarah Gillim has expressed
concern on behalf of Alva. Also opposed is a proposed radio control
station within the park for the same reason.
All Alva officers must comply with the state "sunshine" law and
submit the required forms.
Announced East Lee County Candidates Forum, June 28, Olga Community
Center, 6:30 p.m.
Announced that Labelle-Hendry County Commercial Standards have been
completed. It is necessary that Alva complete our own standards and
submit them to Lee County by September 30. Chairperson Rob Andrys
has invited interested persons to work on the standards, including
the owners of commercial establishments in Alva.
U.S. Homes in area (Bay Shore and Hawks Haven) have proposed greater
housing density in these developing areas. It is important that
Alva join in opposing any increase.
Agreed: to sponsor a Candidates Forum on July 15 at the Alva Middle
School, 7 p.m. All candidates affecting our area (Legislature,
County Commission, Sheriff) will be invited to speak briefly and
answer questions (see above announcement).
It was noted that a cheaper means of informing the community through
the postal service is through a "boxholder" mailing. This will be
explored.
Agreed: To accept the proposal to hold future Alva meetings at the
community building at the Oak Park residential community.
Because
there is a conflict on Thursdays, it was voted to move Alva's
meetings to the fourth Tuesday (instead of Thursday).
Future ALVA meetings will be held at the OaK Park Community
Center at 7:30 pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month, per Sarah
Gillim. Edited by webmaster 7/12/04
A committee has completed a series of "talking points for soliciting
members" which includes most of the major areas of emphasis for the
organization. Names and those who volunteered to work in specific
areas follow. All need more involvement; everyone invited to
consider volunteering in one or more area.
