Minutes, Board of Directors Meeting, Oct. 10, 2002.  Alva Museum

 

NOTE: The next Community Town Hall meeting will be WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 7 pm at the Alva Middle School.  Change is necessary because the space is not available on Thursday.  Please tell your neighbors and friends.  Consultant Vince Cotaro will give a brief overview of the next step for the Alva Plan, especially as it relates to the Rural Village concept.

Present: Rob Andrys, Maria C. Pagan, Lynda Kendrick, Rosie Taylor, Gay Bennett, John Payne

 

Meeting opened by Rob Andrys, vice president, who presented an agenda which was approved.  A quorum was not present so the agenda was discussed and recommendations made which are to be approved at later meetings.

 

Treasurer=s Report presented by Lynda Kendrick.  Treasurer Lynn Fensterer was out of town.

Balance on hand: $5060.15.  Proceeds from the raffle for the Alva quilt to date: $325.00

Gay Bennett reported another $110.00 received in quilt raffle tickets totaling: $435.00

Everyone is encouraged to sell raffle tickets.  The quilt can be displayed at events where it will be secure and protected.  Call Gay Bennett to arrange a showing (728-8883).  Also color photograph posters are available from Gay.

 

John Payne reported that details for insurance for Alva Inc. members and board is pending from the insurance agent.  They have asked for details regarding annual funding and the total of membership which will be forwarded to them.   

 

New business:

 

Rosie Taylor stated that street lights can be installed at minimal cost from Florida Power and Light as long as they don=t Apollute@ the environment with light where it is unwanted.  She recommended that Alva, Inc. explore lights wherever it would provide more safety and security for the community.

 

Funding Committee chair, Lynda Kendrick (welcome back!) announced that Fred=s Trophy Hats is donating baseball caps with the Alva oak tree logo which will be sold.  Alva Inc. will pay for the logo, but the hats will be donated.  A letter of thanks will be written to Fred=s Trophy Hats by the secretary.

 Town Hall meeting, Wednesday, October 23, 7 p.m. at Alva Middle School Auditorium

Agenda includes overview of next step in Alva planning process by Vince Cotaro, question and answer period as needed regarding the addition mil rate for the Alve Fired Dept. and EMS service, by Mike Pcolar, further information concerning the Alva quilt raffle, the organization of the December meeting, outline of 2003 goals, and reports from the various committees.

 NO Town Hall Meeting in November (Thanksgiving)

 


December town hall and board meeting combined: December 12, 7 p.m..  Will be a community gathering with friends, food and festive holiday merriment.  Every individual/family will be asked to bring a dessert to share, canned goods for a local food pantry and a white elephant Agag@ gift to be given away by ASanta.@    Refreshments will be served.  Activities include events for children as well as adults.  The winner of the quilt will be drawn and announced.  The event is planned for everyone in the community.  Please invite neighbors and friends.

 

Outline 2003 goals:

Funding for the overlay zone plans - grant from Lee County.  Committee will begin the application process.  Needed: $25,000.00

Prepare the Overlay zone plan of the historic and mixed use areas.

Prepare the Overlay zone plan for the business area.

Increase membership

Develop more community building activities.

Parks and trails committee will work with lee County to get grants through their staff and newly appointed staff for the U.S. Park Service.
