Minutes  5/9/02, ALVA inc Board of Directors Meeting

Present:  Jennie Frontner, Kathy White, Martin Call, Anita Buff, Mike Buff,  Wanda Evans,  Maria Pagan,  Lynda Kendrick, Mike Dove,  Carol Cunningham, Sarah Gillim, Rob Andrys

The meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm by vice president Rob Andrys.  Minutes of the last BOD meeting approved.  The treasurer’s report was given by Lynda Kendrick from information supplied by our treasurer Lynn Fensterer.  Deposits totaled $335 and disbursements $681.25 since the last meeting.  Total balance is $8928.53.

Carol Cunningham distributed a complete draft of the community plan to those present.  She asked that those present carefully read the draft during the next few days and then relay any comments or concerns to her via e-mail prior to the general community meeting on May 23.  At the May 23 general community meeting the complete draft of the plan will be available to the community at large and Carol will discuss the features of the plan with the group.  Community members can then take the plan home and carefully read it.  After the May 23 meeting, copies of the plan will also be available on-line at Alvafl.org, at the Alva diner, at the Alva market on SR 80 and at the Riverdale library.  Community members can  comment on the plan via e-mail, regular mail or verbally.  There will be a special Board meeting on May 30 where all community members can also comment on the plan

Carol stressed that she had reviewed almost all aspects of the plan with the county planning department (Jim Mudd and Paul O’connor) to ensure its feasibility from the county’s perspective.  She also emphasized that a future big project for the Alva community will be creating the rural village overlay zone which will require the community to develop standards to be adapted into the Lee county Land Development Code.  Creating a conservation land trust will also be important in implementing some of the proposals in the plan.

The group then discussed ways to advertise the important upcoming general community meeting.  Sarah will have 1000 copies of an informational flyer made and community members will distribute it throughout Alva.  Anita Buff will head the effort on the north side of the river and Mike Dove will oversee distribution on the south side of the river.  Mike Buff reported that Lee County ’s electronic signs cost about $240 for 2 days.  It was agreed that the signs will be rented for 2 days and Mike would find appropriate locations for the signs.  The usual legal notice, website announcements and wooden signs will also be used.

Meeting Adjourned at  9:10 pm
