Announced that the Alva, Inc. web site is getting increased attention.  Steve Brookman, our web master, recorded over 800 “hits” in the last month.  Web site is Alvafl.org     Site includes all minutes, full copy of the Alva plan and other information about our community.

Noted that the next Town Hall meeting will be April 24, 7 p.m. at the Alva Community Center.

Communications and advertising for Alva, Inc. is a concern.  One possible plan is to install a sign at the Wayside Park on Hy 80 visible from all directions.  This could contain a message board for meetings of Alva, Inc. and other community information.  This park could become a center for Alva winter holiday celebrations including a large decorated Christmas tree.  A new name for the park is needed and plans include a naming contest.

Rob Andrys appealed for a chair and members for a Park Committee.  All interested should contact either Rob Andrys or John Payne.

Highway 78 designation as “scenic highway.”  No further action has occurred.

representative to Trails and Parks program of Lee County is Laura Davis.

A major part of the meeting was devoted to discussion of the concerns of particular residents on the Caloosahatchee River bank east of the Alva boat ramp on the former High Street.  Their concern is to deny any development of the small undeveloped area between the Corps of Engineers right-of-way and their property.   Misinformation about the Alva Plan had been given them.  The plan envisions leaving this area unchanged from its present status.  An application has been made to Lee County to cede this area to these land owners and the group requested that Alva, Inc.. support their request.  Lynda Kendrick moved that Alva, inc. support the request.  Rob Andrys ruled that this is a decision that should be acted upon by the whole community and delayed action until the next community meeting, April 24.

Lynda Kendrick announced the Spring Fling, April 12, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. where Alva Inc. will be offering food services and a membership booth.  She appealed for help to set up at 8:30 a.m.   Memberships are now due, 5$ individual, $10 family.

Nominating Committee report will be due at the April 24, community meeting.

Rob Andrys emphasized the importance of the Lee County meeting which will hear a first reading of the Alva Plan and recommendations.  A large contingent of Alva citizens should be present to provide support for the plan.  Some land owners who want greater population and building density will be represented to oppose the plan.  The date of the meeting is not yet determined.  A telephone “tree” is being established to inform as many as possible of the date and time of the meeting tentatively set for late April.
